Someone told me that if I put a tbl.spoon of baking soda in w/ chili beans, the chili wouldnt give gas? - soda gives me gas

Is that true? I always like to eat baking soda,,,, your stomach would explode .... Although I have heard that some people are a mixture of water and baking soda and drinks for a stomachache ..... so what's the deal?
